Today, Bob & I ventured off to Argentina in search of the perfect steak, and we may have just come close to it. I have made steaks with chimichurri sauce before, so I used my own recipe for the marinade. All the marinades that I looked at on AllRecipes called for parsley, but I watched an obscure cooking show years ago on OPB and a lady from Argentina made it with cilantro. I watched the show closely and duplicated her version of chimichurri. I have made it with parsley, but, for our tastes, we prefer cilantro. I made it with cilantro, red wine vinegar, red pepper flakes, lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic and black pepper. I marinaded thin-cut skirt steak overnight in it. I can't really give the measurements because, really, it's to taste. I was a little heavy-handed on the vinegar though. We started the BBQ with this weather out front and.... This squall coming up quick out back. I wish I could have captured how the wind was blowing the trees over but I just couldn't. It's been sunny, rainy, cloudy, hail-y and back to sunny today...crazy weather!
This is the Argentinean Potato Salad http://allrecipes.com/recipe/argentinean-potato-salad/detail.aspx Bob said this was some of the best potato salad he's ever had. He gave this recipe 5 out of 5 stars, which, if you ever tried to cook for Bob, doesn't come easy. I love the green olives in this and whodathunk to put a can of Veg-All into potato salad? This is super good and I highly recommend trying this recipe if you ever want something a little different from the norm.

Argentina is the second largest country in South America and the eighth largest country in the world. It borders Paraguay and Bolivia to the north, Brazil and Uruguay to the northeast and Chile to the west and south. Argentina's climate ranges from sub-tropical in the north to sub-polar in the far south.
The official language of Argentina is Spanish. Buenos Aires is the largest city. Argentina is organized into 23 provinces.
Argentineans are fond of beef and pasta. Spanish and Italian cuisine often inspire everyday cooking. The largest meal is usually lunch, and the most popular types of restaurants are steakhouses and pizzerias.
I decided to serve pasta with the steak, so I wanted something simple, yet delicious. I picked up a small package of pasta in the Mexican section of the supermarket and it was a spaghetti type, but coiled into little "nests". I'm not sure what it is called, but this is the type I used. I made a simple garlic-butter sauce and tossed the cooked pasta in it and added in fresh chopped parsley and a couple of chopped roma tomatoes that I needed to use up. This is a great light meal in itself. Again, no recipe for this...just to your taste.

Tonight we had a guest BBQ'er...Bob! I think he's been kind of left out in the cold as far as these weekly dinners go, so I gave him the task of BBQ'ing the steak. He did a wonderful job of it and I'll give him 5 stars for his efforts as he had to deal with a minor hail storm in the middle of all this! Thank you, Bob...the steaks were terrific!

So this was our late afternoon Argentinean dinner...pasta a la Laurrie, Argentinean Potato Salad and Steaks with Chimichurri a la Bob!! Super yummy.

And last, but never least, dessert. I had a heck of a time trying to find something that was actually do-able in this RV. I don't have custard cups to do flans and I hate making cookies, so I was happy as a lark to find this recipe online. It's called Dulce de Batata http://www.popular-traditional-argentina-food.com/dulcedebatata.html This is so easy and so tasty and just a fantastic way to fix yams or sweet potatoes. I think this recipe will take over on our Thanksgiving dinner! It was Bob's idea for the whip cream, the recipe didn't call for it, but, hey, in a country that eats that much beef, you gotta figure they have a lot of dairy, so the whip cream fit right in!

Tonight's dinner ran me $8.67 for groceries, which left $11.33 to go into the Beach Bag for a total after 14 weeks of $92.30. I'm thinking that's a pretty good little nest egg I've got going.
Bob starts his radiation treatments on the 19th. He got a call the other day from the VA to tell him they aren't taking his teeth after all, first they are, then they aren't, then they are...ah, h3ll! I'm dizzy thinking about it! But hopefully this is the final offer of they aren't!
This week 39 people voted for next week. Bob chose Kenya and I chose Portugal. Apparently, you all want me to break into those 3 lobster tails I've been hoarding in my freezer because the majority (23-16) want to see Portugal, so that's what I'll be doing. Thanks all for voting. If you want to get in on that, I post every Sunday on the Recipe Exchange starting in the morning and sporadically throughout the day, so watch for the posts.
